Ten Ways to Improve your Writing

Information Technology

1. Do your assigned homework reading. Read all handouts carefully, and write down all information put it on the Microsoft word text . Discuss among your coleagues about clarification and uncertainties about your assignments.

2. Make use of available study guides. and critical studies of works discussed in class. This is specially important in Information Technology classes.

3. Listen carefully and thoughtfully. Always have an android or IOS touch pen installed on your mobile phone for taking notes during discussions; note selections titles, authors, characters names, keywords, conflict I.P. address details, information about the website, symbols, the themes. Review and study these notes for quizzes, test essays and exams.

4. Ask questions about anything you don't understand after the online class. Look up unfamiliar code or words in google to save time and effort. It is difficult to do well if you dont know the words or code you are reading, or can't paraphrase correctly what the author is conveying. Discuss about it.

5. Ask questions about instructions for assignments. Make sure you were asking a pertinent questions or are corresponding to the key words and all parts of an essay topic. If unsure, discuss the topic with your instructor or facilitator before you start to write.

6. Develop a plan before you write a code or essay. Do as many drafts as you can before writing the final of your good copy.

7. Before submitting an assignment, have a several people to read it over.

aske your readers to check the following:

a. content: "Do I have enough ideas and examples? What can be added or deleted?" It may be neccessary for your readers to know the selection to get good feedback on content.

b. organization: "Have I got a thesis, topic sentences, introduction, conlcusion, a title? Is my material in the best order? Have I organize by selection? character? Idea? main events?"

c. sentences: "Are they clear and complete? (Remember, simpler is better.) Are verb tenses in agreement? is there anything that sounds awkward?"

d. word choice: "Is my word clear and specific? have maintained an appropriate formal tone? Have I avoided using 'they,' 'you,' 'I,' and slang?"

e. spelling: "Is my spelling accurate?"

f. apostrophes and other punctuation: "Have I correctly used punctuation marks?"

g. legibility: "Is my work legible/readable?"

8. read over comments, not just the marks. What are you doing well? What do you need to change or improve? Your main writing problems will ussually be obvious after one to two pieces of writing.

9. for spelling errors, get a scribbler and devide each page into two columns. Write the error on one side and the corrections on the other. Review this list of misspelled words before every test and before you turn in assignments.

10. Do all the rewrites and ask for/suggest relevant extra work. Never underestimate the power of practice in grammar.
